Tension between Bills, Tyrod Taylor reaches point of awkward passive-aggressiveness

And the mere wording of the Bills' statement on Taylor's surgery included some clues as to what could be brewing, with the union and the league office taking note of the passive wording that Taylor "elected to have surgery this morning". In 15 games as the starter in 2016, Taylor completed 269-of-436 passes for 3,023 yards, 17 touchdowns and six interceptions while only accounting for one 300-yard passing game in the effort.

The Bills confirmed on Thursday that Taylor was having an operation shortly after the quarterback posted photos of himself in a hospital gown on his Snapchat account.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor underwent surgery on Thursday morning, a day after receiving a consult from Dr. William Myers, who specializes in sports hernia and core muscle injuries. "The Bills were informed late yesterday of this morning's procedure". NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports it is for six weeks. In what the team termed a "business decision", the Bills deactivated Taylor for the season finale. "But we'll see when that happens". The 2017 portion of the deal is guaranteed for injury, so if Taylor is unable to pass a physical by March 11, he would collect that money. However, the team's statement indicates there they have some doubt as to whether Taylor will be fully healed by the time the team could release Taylor in mid-March; because Taylor elected for surgery, the Bills could fear they must pay Taylor his guaranteed salary if they plan to release him.

The Bills provided little details in a statement released earlier today, including no official details as for any timeline on recovery.

Taylor consulted with a doctor Wednesday, which led to his decision to undergo a procedure. That option would guarantee Taylor a helping of $30.75 million.
