Microsoft Germany suggests Windows 7 is unfit for business use

Elbert EdwardsJan 19, 2017

While basic support for Windows 7 wrapped two years ago, the OS will continue to receive security updates until 2020.

Microsoft yesterday encouraged business users to make the switch to a newer version of the operating system, claiming Windows 7 is no longer "fit" to be used in businesses.

With this purchase, the Redmond based tech major hopes to accelerate its 3D for everyone vision, which was introduced with the Windows 10 Creators Update with the ability to allow users to capture, create and share in 3D in October past year. "We are building Beam as a feature of Xbox One and Windows 10, making Beam one of the easiest and quickest ways to stream your gameplay", Mike Ybarra, head, Platform Engineering, Xbox, said in a statement. These upgrades include added security protection, Windows Information Protection, Windows Ink, a more friendly Cortana, more power-efficient Edge browser, the new Xbox Play Anywhere programme and added functionality for students.

However, pulling the plug on Windows 7 would likely prove to be a hard task.

Microsoft says in an announcement that with its new acquisition it can finally enable "3D for everyone", clearly hinting that technology developed by Simplygon can make it to its products in the coming months and years. Writing on the Windows 10 blog yesterday, Windows and Devices Group executive vice president Terry Myerson said the new features were added based on feedback from Windows users.

More updates are going to be announced as part of the Creators Update in the near future.According to Microsoft, the update will be all about performing some of the common tasks faster.

Companies using Windows 7 for applications with sensitive data will face dangers.

It took the world a while to understand and digest "end of support" for Windows XP. It also warned that companies and businesses who are still using it are more vulnerable to cyberattacks.

Microsoft is also letting Insiders try out new features for Windows Information Protection that are created to give enterprise users more control over how encrypted work files are copied and managed on other devices and applications.
