Fire Emblem Heroes: Nintendo's next smartphone game set for February release

Elbert EdwardsJan 21, 2017

At its most basic level, Heroes plays out like any Fire Emblem game.

Despite my prior feelings that Fire Emblem Fates would be lacking for having split its story, it actually feels more like a full-fat package than ever. The first game in the series debuted in 1990 in Japan, but it only came to North America in 2003, with the simply-titled "Fire Emblem" game for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance. Although it didn't last very long, there was a lot to sift through, including confirmation of new titles as well as the first mobile Fire Emblem experience. However, Nintendo fully revealed Fire Emblem Heroes during a special, Yuri Lowenthal-voiced Fire Emblem-themed Nintendo Direct video. However, Nintendo also gave some love to Fire Emblem, its strategy RPG series, by announcing a spinoff in the form of Fire Emblem Warriors.

Nintendo has opened a website where users can vote for their favorite hero or heroine to be featured in Fire Emblem Heroes for an in-game event.

Along with "Fire Emblem Heroes", Nintendo also announced "Fire Emblem Echoes", a new game for the Nintendo 3DS portable console, as well as more details of the forthcoming "Fire Emblem Warriors", an action-based spinoff of the series coming to the new Nintendo Switch console as well as the 3DS.

Fire Emblem: Heroes, out February 2 for iOS and Android devices, once more pits two kingdoms against each other.

So what did you think of all these titles? Different units you summon have different magical attributes, even if they're the same character, so you have to balance strengths and weakness. The game will arrive on iOS "soon".

That wasn't today's only Fire Emblem announcement. One of them, however, isn't exactly new. Voting is now open on the official Fire Emblem site, with My Nintendo account members receiving 200 Platinum Points for making a selection.

Fire Emblem: Warriors comes to the Nintendo Switch and 3DS in fall of 2017.

Furthermore, Fire Emblem will return to home consoles next year as a title will make it to the Switch.
