Much of Northern Idaho is under a winter weather advisory calling for up to 4 inches of snow Sunday afternoon through Monday morning.

However, the weather service said it had "low" confidence in the forecast and cautioned that snow may not materialize, or may fall in lesser amounts.

According to the NWS, extended periods of snow in the High Country will start on Thursday, but the greatest impact will be Friday night to early Saturday with heavy snow and wind.

Most of the heaviest precipitation is forecast to fall much farther east of the Buffalo Niagara region by Tuesday morning. The Watch will be in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon. Up to six inches of snow and sleet could fall with northeast winds gusting up to 30 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service says the conditions could make for hazardous driving and isolated power outages. Either way, travel into Wyoming and Idaho will be impacted where Winter Storm Watches are now in effect.

Cuomo says additional resources from other regions of the state are ready for reallocation as necessary.

The Winter Weather Advisory for the Flat Tops area warns of six to 12 inches before noon on Tuesday.

The weather service said depending on the temperature, the snow could change over to rain for a time Sunday morning through Monday night in East Idaho's lower elevation areas.

Forecasters do not expect ice storm conditions.
