Overnight low temps fall into the mid and upper 20s.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook statement Monday morning for southeast NY. A little light snow is possible tonight, but most of what is coming in will arrive in the early morning hours Tuesday. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28.

The Portland area may receive up to 6 inches of snow beginning early Tuesday, followed by periods of sleet and freezing rain, said a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Gray.

On the South Fork, temperatures are warming up, though rain is expected to fall over the next two days. All precipitation is presently forecast to changeover to rain on Wednesday morning, according to the NWS. The hill towns and Berkshires may continue to see an icy mixture much of the day, so higher ice amounts are expected here as well.

Weather forecasters say northern New Jersey, New York City and Long Island could get as much as 4 to 6 inches of snow from a storm system that's expected to move quickly through the region late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Wednesday: Chance of rain showers, mainly before 10 a.m.

The rain is expected to end Tuesday night when a cold front chills the area.
