Protesters Attempt to Block Education Secretary Betsy DeVos from Entering DC School

Protesters physically blocked Education Sec.

DeVos arrived at Jefferson Middle School Academy for an event with local school officials, according to the Washington Post, and demonstrators physically blocked her from entering, then followed her to her SUV while chanting "shame" and criticizing her for donating almost a billion dollars to the senators who voted to put her in office.

The protestors blocked her from walking up stairs to enter the school and then followed her to her vehicle, yelling at her while she tried to leave. The police broke up the line, carrying away one person who'd clung to the grille of the auto.

Maryland's voucher system, called Broadening Options and Opportunities for Students Today, was created in 2016 by Gov. Larry Hogan, and allocates $5 million from public school funding to be used for private school vouchers. It also updated a program helping to get charter schools started, seen as a crucial step in their expansion, quality enhancement and doing for students what they so desperately need.
