Instagram Just Announced Its Biggest & Most Controversial Update Yet

That's the approach Instagram is taking with its newest feature, photo and video carousels, which let users share up to 10 pictures or videos at once. From here you just add the photos or videos you want grouped together in one post. Only one caption is allowed to cover all ten pictures/videos and for now, they must all be square. It will show up in your friends' feeds with blue dots at the bottom, so they'll know that the post has multiple images or videos.

This is a major new feature for Instagram that was previously only available to advertisers. Carousels will roll out to all users on Android and iOS over the next few weeks, the company said. "You can like and comment on them just like a regular post", Instagram adds. It used to be a place where you could go to make your photos look a bit nicer. Now, Instagram is introducing another of its most requested features: the photo album.

Depending on who you ask, this is either a welcome change for Instagram, which formerly restricted multi-photo posting to brands, or something fundamentally at odds with one of the defining characteristics of the network. This furthers Instagram's quest to be more than where you "only get to see the highlights", that Systrom described as the motive behind launching Instagram Stories. The carousels will feature the first photo or video to your Instagram feed, while the remaining photos in the batch can be swiped left or right.

Not sure what to do with Instagram or its 600 million active monthly users? Then you artfully edit the image by choosing the flawless filter and tweaking it in advanced options.

Earlier this month, Instagram began testing the ability to add a combination of videos and photos to a single post, up to 10 altogether. You simply let them share more photos.
