Avalanche trade Jarome Iginla to Kings

Doyle BarkerMar 03, 2017

He's recorded 1,291 points over a 20-year National Hockey League career, also playing for the Flames, Penguins and Bruins, but has yet to win a Stanley Cup.

Jarome Iginla's tough-luck pursuit of an elusive Stanley Cup rages on.

1, 210-lb. forward was drafted in the first-round (11th overall) by the Dallas Stars during the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.

The Kings have been wheeling and dealing this trade deadline. His one and only trip to the Stanley Cup Final was in 2004 when he captained the Calgary Flames to play for the prize before falling to the Tampa Bay Lightning in a seven-game series.

The move reunites Iginla and Kings head coach Darryl Sutter, who coached Iginla during his tenure with the Calgary Flames between 2002 and 2006.

The Los Angeles Kings acquired veteran forward Jarome Iginla from the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday for a conditional pick in the 2018 draft, general manager Dean Lombardi announced.

From there, Iginla has bounced around in the last few years, trying to find the team that will finally give him his chance at a championship. A miserable season for the entire Colorado Avalanche has included Iginla's continued decline: with just eight goals in 61 games, Iginla is on pace for about 25 points and the worst season of his 20-year career.

The 39-year-old Iginla is recognized for being a former superstar (and likely a future Hall of Famer), but he's been a shell of his former self in recent years and has especially underperformed this season.

Acquiring King was the latest move by Montreal to get bigger and tougher.
