Spotify Is Readying a Hi-Fi Music Streaming Tier

There are a lot of music services that offer plenty of options for your audio pleasure. They have posted screen grabs of in-app notifications promoting the new Spotify Hifi service, though different screen grabs seem to show slightly different price points and specifications - some include physical product upsell - hence the thinking that Spotify is still playing with the proposition. Now called Spotify Hi-FI, the offering became available to select Premium subscribers yesterday as part of a what appears to be an A/B test to determine the best price point.

Furthermore, Spotify has opted to not engage in a war over exclusive album premieres, which has been Apple Music's strategy to lure new users. Would you pay more for lossless CD quality audio?

Spotify is seemingly prepping a high quality audio version of its service, because that worked out brilliantly for Tidal, didn't it?

A small number of Spotify subscribers have allegedly received prompts encouraging them to upgrade to the new tier, which will reportedly range from an additional $5 to $10 per month. One thing is for sure that if this service is liked by the existing Spotify users then definitely this music app will attract more users who use different applications for this objective. Signing up might also get audiophiles a free vinyl and discounts on future vinyl purchases.

The music streaming provider is still in the middle of its price testing, The Verge reported.

Spotify now has 40 million paying subscribers and if they can convert even just a portion of that to Hi-Fi subscribers, then this may be a step towards profitability. Some saw pricing at $20 and others at $15 a month, so Spotify is clearly still testing. While users have been excited by the new offering, it doesn't appear to be functional yet.
