Google's Video Intelligence API makes video searchable

"Google has a long history working with the largest media companies in the world, and we help them find value from unstructured data like video", said Fei-Fei Li, Chief Scientist of Google Cloud AI and Machine Learning.

"Now we are just doing it for businesses". In a way, this new technology is similar to the image search using recognition and processing tools, the only difference being this time it is not just for static images.

Google has invested $30 billion in the Google Cloud Platform to leverage its machine learning and artificial intelligence capabilities.

Some of the Google announced on Wednesday also use AWS and Microsoft clouds, in what they described as having a multi-cloud strategy.

Google says the Video Intelligence API allows developers to take advantage of Google video search capabilities even if they don't have a background in machine learning or computer vision. It uses deep learning models to detect objects and themes in video content.

The acquisition will see Kaggle's team rolled into the Google Cloud brand.

All of the announcements are part of an effort by the company to make machine learning and AI more widely available to people, Li said during the keynote address, adding that "Google Cloud is democratizing AI".

The new API was built to help understand the overall content in videos, and extract actionable insight from that data. Toward that end, they plan to launch a software development kit for programmers later this month.

Meanwhile, Google will continue to be focusing on its Business Apps as a key selling point for the cloud.

Located in Montreal, the first Canadian Google Cloud Platform Region was announced during a keynote Thursday at the company's Google Cloud Next '17 conference in San Francisco.

"Big data is so powerful that nation-states will fight over [it]", Schmidt said.

"With a growing number of enterprises moving their analytics workloads to the cloud, we're extremely excited for the opportunity to address the data wrangling challenges of these innovative organizations", said Adam Wilson, CEO, Trifacta. "This is an incredibly serious mission - something I've wanted to do since I started at the company 17 years ago". The company is recognizing partners who have demonstrated customer success in a handful of categories.
