Miranda GreerMar 13, 2017

He said no one is responsible for the people, probably we "failed to connect with the masses". He also said that he was termed a "BJP ka dalla" by the party when he tried to bring out a real picture in front of Samajwadi Party.

Shivpal Yadav, a master organiser and a grassroots leader of the party, said: "This is a defeat of arrogance not of the Samajwadi Party".

Earlier in the day, his brother and party leader Shivpal Yadav said his party would thoroughly analyse the reasons for the dismal show.

Sources close to Shivpal said he and Mulayam were in agreement that Akhilesh Yadav should relinquish the post of national president of the party for Mulayam since he had promised to do the same after the elections.

A day after the election results of Uttar Pradesh came out, the Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav came out to spoke and accepted the defeat with open arms. However he will have to take responsibility for party's defeat also. The acting chief minister of UP made few sarcastic comments saying people did not care about the terrific expressway we built, they want to see bullet trains and voted for them. With a victory on over 300 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party is set to form the next government in the politically crucial state after 15 years.

Accusing outgoing chief minister of being arrogant, veteran leader Bhagwati Singh said: "I never imagined that the party would get 47 seats after running a government with a majority..." He added that more than 26% of the party workers still stand with Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Asserting that the BJP will have an edge over all other parties in the polls, Singh claimed that the BSP too will surpass the SP's tally.

Shivpal won the Jaswantnagar seat but Aparna Yadav, daughter-in-law of Mulayam Singh Yadav's second wife Sadhana Gupta, lost to the BJP's Rita Bahuguna Joshi.
