Malaysia got DNA from Kim's son overseas: deputy PM

Miranda GreerMar 17, 2017

This comes as Interpol issued a red notice, the closest instrument to an global arrest warrant, on four North Koreans wanted in connection with the murder.

He did not say when and where the DNA sample was taken.

It was astounding the USA government had provided over £1billion in aid to North Korea to no result, as Kim Jong-un continues to escalate the situation on the peninsula, Donald Trump's Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said.

Rising tensions between the two nations have seen both banning the other's citizens from leaving their country. Malaysia has charged two women with the murder. No next of kin has come forward to claim the body.

Interpol on its website posted pictures and details about the four suspects, O. Jong Gil, Ri Ji Hyon, Ri Jae Nam and Hong Song Hak, saying the four men were wanted by the judicial authorities of Malaysia for murder charges, reported Xinhua news agency.

"Negotiations are still on going, it started last Monday".

Nine Malaysians are in North Korea. However, North Korea is not a member of the organization.

Zahid yesterday said Jong-nam's identity was confirmed based on DNA sample comparisons with one of the deceased's children.

Pyongyang has repeatedly sought custody of the body, but Malaysia has so far refused to release it to anyone other than Jong-nam's family.

All four entered Malaysia between late January and the first week of February and fled the country on February 13, soon after Kim Jong Nam was ambushed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, according to police.

North Korea blocked Malaysians from leaving the country until a "fair settlement" of the case is reached.

The heightened diplomatic tension between North Korea and Malaysia has spilled over to a sports event, with the Asian Football Confederation announcing last Friday the postponement of the 2019 Asian Cup final round qualifier between North Korea and Malaysia scheduled for March 28 in Pyongyang, the North Korean capital.

North Korea has blamed the United States and South Korea for the high-profile murder.
