Sidney Crosby scores goal of the season vs. Sabres

The league's Department of Player Safety will hold a hearing with Buffalo's top defenseman on Thursday. Huge hit, just can't do this so reckless to go in and slam in backwards on a guy without even seeing puck, should be a suspension coming too.

The players were still buzzing about Crosby's goal, his sixth in three games.

After both Matt Murray and Robin Lehner kept their teams in the game early and often, Crosby would strike on another power play chance with time quickly running out in the first period. Ristolainen was tossed from the game for the hit, but the Sabres killed off the entire five-minute power play.

Guentzel wobbled, stumbled and fell to the ice as he tried to get back to the bench.

After the game, Coach Sullivan would note that Guentzel indeed had a concussion. From where I was watching it looked like Ristolainen was lining up to hit Guentzel once he got the puck.

As he was doing that, he shoveled a one-handed back hand over Lehner's glove to open the scoring for the night.

There might not be a sweeter job in hockey than riding shotgun on the wing of Sidney Crosby. The Sabres would play a relatively strong period, but would be undone by a few tough deflections that led right to Penguins goals, one on a screen and one off of Girgensons' skate.

Crosby also continued his dominance over Buffalo, upping his total to 16 goals, 35 assists for 51 points in 34 career games.

Period two saw Pittsburgh tighten up defensively, after allowing 13 shots in period one, they cut it by more than half in the second 20 minutes of play.

But the Pittsburgh captain was left feeling groggy at the end of the match after being high-sticked by Evander Kane in the final seconds, a shot that knocked out several of his teeth. Bonino followed up and snapped a shot through a crowd to beat Lehner just inside the left post.

Problem is, Guentzel didn't have the puck in his possession when Risto cleaned his clock, which resulted in Risto being assessed a five-minute major for interference and getting tossed out of the game in the first period.
