Derrick Rose to have knee surgery again, miss rest of season

Elbert EdwardsApr 03, 2017

Those close to Rose expect him to be at full health two months after the surgery, which will be scheduled shortly.

That's because Rose tore the meniscus in his left knee and will be out for 6-8 weeks. The Knicks announced the knee will require arthroscopy, and it will be Rose's fourth surgery to either knee.

Rose missed his third straight game Sunday against Boston.

The 28-year-old last appeared in a game Monday against the Detroit Pistons, scoring 27 points in a win.

Rose will be a free agent this offseason for the first time in his career.

Rose said at the time that he didn't believe that the injury was anything serious that would need to be surgically repaired.

The Knicks were recently eliminated from playoff contention, so not having Rose on the court won't affect the team's chances of making a late-season run toward the postseason, but it definitely won't help the Knicks evaluate whether or not they want to bring the former MVP back.

Traded to NY last June with Justin Holiday for Robin Lopez and Jerian Grant when the Bulls made a decision to cut ties with the Chicago native, Rose's current season got off to a shaky start while he successfully defended himself in civil court against sexual assault allegations brought by a former girlfriend. The Knicks sent the Bulls center Robin Lopez and guard Jerian Grant in the deal. He has been mostly healthy during his lone season with the Knicks, averaging 18 points and 4.4 assists over 64 games.
