Raiders headed to Vegas

Doyle BarkerApr 03, 2017

The Raiders received about $750 million from Nevada taxpayers past year to build a stadium in Las Vegas, and team owner Mark Davis is putting up $500 million. And at about 600,000 people, Las Vegas is only about half the size of the Oakland/Bay Area.

MARK DAVIS: I love Oakland.

The letter was in response to additional details Schaaf released publicly on Friday regarding the last-minute efforts from the city to keep the Raiders in Oakland.

Miami might also see a new stadium in Las Vegas as competition for hosting another Super Bowl.

This week, in fact, Raiders owner Mark Davis told ESPN the team would "seriously consider it" if "they want us". It was Jones who brought in Bank of America to help finance the deal when other banks and investors bailed on Davis.

Also in the details, the Raiders commit only to playing in Oakland for 2017, adding that season ticket members and Las Vegas deposit holders will receive information on future seasons as it becomes available.

The move is another in the jarring relocation landscape now making over the NFL. "I don't even know how that's going to work, honestly, with a football team moving to Las Vegas".

The Raiders relocating to Las Vegas has been fascinating to watch unfold.

"I feel bad for the city of Oakland, man", Green said to a pool of reporters yesterday, as reported by the San Jose Mercury News/Bay Area News Group. However, the Coliseum spends more than $8 million per year to enable the Raiders to play there - including game-day operations such as security and sanitation.

Listen to the full interview with Norm Clarke, including info on the Raiders' plan for a new stadium and "making it rain", in the podcast below. The Silver and Black now plans its move to Las Vegas. The investors, working with Oakland mayor Libby Schaaf and East Bay lawmakers, offered a $1.3 billion stadium plan that included a mixed-use development on the current site of the Coliseum, the smallest and third-oldest permanent National Football League facility.

The Raiders have been in Oakland in 45 of the franchise's 58 seasons, including the last 22.

An ageing stadium and small crowds were the reasoning behind the Chargers move to Los Angeles.

"If they want us, we'd seriously consider it", Davis said.
