Severe weather possible late Thursday in East Tennessee

While this is not a widespread severe weather event for Eastern Kentucky, a solid portion of the coverage area has a chance to see a strong storm or two.

The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center has said the storms travelling east along the Interstate 20 corridor through Louisiana could cause significant wind damage throughout the day and into Sunday night. Storms will be producing high rainfall rates, and if storms slowly move over some of the same areas, flash flooding could certainly occur.

Parts of Arkansas and MS were also under a threat of tornadoes, but the bullseye was on Louisiana.

Isolated tornadoes, large hail and winds up to 70 miles per hour are possible in western and northern Arkansas.

A few showers may linger into early Monday morning before drier air and sunshine returns by Monday afternoon.

A complex storm system has brought much-needed rain to the Commonwealth.

There is no severe weather threat for the Richmond metro at this time, but rain is approaching Powhatan and Chesterfield Counties, and should arrive in Richmond during the next hour.

On Sunday, we will be in store for a 90% chance of heavy rain and possible severe weather, too.

The storm threat should come to an end from west to east across the state by late afternoon and early evening. "If people feel unsafe, I do recommend that, if someone needs to seek shelter, they go way ahead of the storm front". The Storm Prediction Center has much of north centralLouisiana and a small portion of extreme southwest MS in a "moderate" risk for severe weather.

"The main threats for tomorrow are large hail and damaging winds", Guerrero said.

The governor said powerful straight-line winds destroyed the mobile home.

Be sure to have means of staying weather aware overnight and through the day Thursday. "It is an extremely unsafe weather event". There continues to be weak rotation within this storm. For one, the weather service measured a lot of wind shear, meaning gusts were changing speed and direction with height, he said.
