Trump defends Fox News host O'Reilly as 'good person'

Miranda GreerApr 06, 2017

Trump said that he didn't think O'Reilly should have settled with the women involved.

O'Reilly's show is facing an exodus of advertisers after a New York Times investigation over the weekend revealed five women have received a combined $13 million in settlements stemming from complaints about his conduct. "I don't think Bill did anything wrong".

When Fox CEO Roger Ailes was under scrutiny and later forced to resign, Trump continued to maintain his innocence and stand by the aggressor, even as it threatened his presidential ambitions.

O'Reilly responded Tuesday with a Facebook post chastising Lemon saying, "While some outlets have downplayed the explosive allegations against former Obama aide Susan Rice, CNN's Don Lemon went all the way and declared his show a Rice-Free Zone".

According to a report by CNN among the companies refusing to advertise on O'Reilly's show are Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, BMW of North America, Constant Contact, Ainsworth Pet Nutrition, UNTUCKit, Allstate, T. Rowe Price, GlaxoSmithKline and Sanofi.

Trump definitely is helping to raise awareness about sexual assault, but in the worst way possible: by defending a rich, powerful man accused of sexual harassment, and reminding the whole world of his own slew of allegations, as well.

O'Reilly has always been a ratings standout for the conservative cable news channel, despite multiple allegations of sexual harassment that have been brought against him from women within the company.

Lemon's social message was in response to an earlier tweet from the rival cable news host, one in which O'Reilly claimed Monday's edition of "CNN Tonight" failed to cover a recent story surrounding Susan Rice and alleged improper handling of national intelligence.

Human Rights Commission spokesman Seth Hoy said he could not comment.

Ailes, who has denied all of the allegations against him, was forced to resign from Fox News just one week after that interview.
