Barry Manilow says he's "proud" of his marriage to husband Garry Kief.

The 73-year-old music legend married his longtime manager, Gary Kief, in a 2014 ceremony at their home in Palm Springs, California. So I never did anything. I was pretty lonely before that ...

Manilow at the height of his career had a devoted and largely female fan base, for whom his sexuality gradually became an open secret.

Barry Manilow has revealed he never came out as gay because he thought his fans would be disappointed. I mean, I'm a very private guy.

"You know, the fact that Garry and I are in the public, that's fine", Manilow told ET's Cameron Mathison. "The reaction was handsome - strangers commenting 'Great for you!' I'm just so grateful for it", Manilow said.

The full interview will run in People's latest edition, published tomorrow, April 7th.

Barry Manilow is now plugging his latest album "This Is My Town: Songs of New York" which is set for release on April 21st 2017.

According to Barry Manilow, he was not yet struggling with his sexuality when he married his high school sweetheart, Susan Deixler.

The wedding of Manilow and Kief made headlines, Manilow's thought of disappointing his fans if he will turn out as gay has proven wrong.

"We've been together for all these years", he explained. 'I don't know, maybe they care about everybody, but for me, it is so moving, it is so deep that these strangers were so happy that I was happy'.

"I didn't think it was going to be that emotional", Manilow said.

"I was out making music every night, sowing my wild oats - I was too young".

News broke in 2015 that Manilow and Kief had Wednesday in an intimate ceremony in April 2014 after more than 30 years together.
