55 percent of Americans approve of Obamacare

Judith QuinnApr 10, 2017

The April Gallup poll shows, when asked if they "generally approve" of the Affordable Care Act, which "restructured the US healthcare system", 55 percent now say they approve, up from compared to 42 percent in November, while 41 percent disapprove.

However, much like the first bill that failed, the devil is in the details.

"The ideas that were tossed around were not rejected out of hand", said Rep. Morgan Griffith, R-Va., a Freedom Caucus member.

Additionally, according to Kaiser researchers, "the public is increasingly wary of President Trump's ability to deliver on his campaign promise of less expensive and better health care for all Americans".

Wow: Obamacare approval surges to 55% in favor, 41% against amid Republican repeal efforts, per new Gallup poll. The 216 refers to the number of "yes" votes needed to pass a bill in the House. The following night, President Donald Trump said making a deal on health care would be "such an easy one". The New York Times and The Washington Post between them identified about 50 House Republicans who were opposed to or had concerns about the AHCA just before it was due to be voted on in March. I feel like we have the resources, the medical technology and everything in place to provide the health care to the people. The right-most ones have mostly learned to live with tax credits to allow people who don't benefit from Medicare, Medicaid, or the tax break for employer-provided health coverage to buy health insurance too.

But waivers would move us toward a health-insurance system in which premiums were lower, private coverage was more widespread, and the federal government played a smaller role.

Pearson, while not a fan of the ill-fated Republican proposal, noted that the Affordable Care Act still leaves many without coverage and channels billions of taxpayer dollars to private insurance companies. Sixty-three percent of GenForward respondents approved of the Affordable Care Act while only about 25 percent of young people ages 18 to 30 wanted to see Obamacare repealed, including 16 percent of young people who wanted it repealed and replaced and 10 percent who wanted only to see the bill repealed.

The White House is trying to revive its healthcare reform push with a new bill that would include popular provisions from the Affordable Care Act (ACA) but also allow states to opt out of them.

Republican blame was spread between House Speaker Paul Ryan, at 27 percent, and the conservative Freedom Caucus, at 27 percent, with slightly fewer blaming moderate Republicans, at 22 percent.
