David Moyes not giving up on Sunderland's survival

Doyle BarkerApr 11, 2017

Moyes' men have now failed to score in their last seven Premier League games and they are 10 points from safety with seven games to go, and the former United boss was not happy with Larsson's red card.

David Moyes says Seb Larsson's red card changed the course of yesterday's game against Manchester United - but refused to use it as an excuse for another Sunderland defeat. With games against leaders Chelsea and fifth-placed Arsenal still to come, Moyes knows that time is running out for his team. Hopefully that game can be this weekend. We will improve. Like I said, it can't get any worse.

United were leading 1-0 at the time and went on to cruise to a 3-0 victory over the Black Cats, who remain bottom of the table. "We're still there, trying to put some pressure on to go into the last month still fighting", the Portuguese said after Sunday's match, as reported by The Guardian.

Free signing Anichebe returned from a knee injury which had sidelined him since January as a substitute at Leicester in midweek, and Moyes is hoping the muscular striker can rediscover the form which made him an instant favourite on Wearside just when his club needs it most.

"Lee Cattermole trained today and looked fine".

"Victor's up and running".

Sunderland are now 10 points from safety and with the team having failed to score in their last six games, it would be hard for anyone to begrudge a change in the dugout, but it could be argued that a game of this importance is what David Moyes may need to spark a change in mindset in the dressing room. "We resisted the results of yesterday when Manchester City and Liverpool won, they left us in a position of "yes" or "no".

Shaw played the first hour at the Stadium of Light tie before being replaced by Danny Blind, having provided an assist for Henrikh Mkhitaryan's 46th minute goal, after Zlatan Ibrahimovic had opened the scoring on 30 minutes.
