Richard Sherman Asked Seahawks To Trade Him

Doyle BarkerApr 11, 2017

In a recent Mock Draft I saw over on 12th Man Rising, Dan Viens projected four players whose college careers were for teams in Washington state going to the Seahawks.

"I think there are five clues about the possibility of Richard Sherman being traded that lead me to believe it's more likely than not he will be traded, and probably before the April 27 first round", King writes in his weekly MMQB column.

"If he goes to the Patriots, I am letting you know now, it is the last day I will work for ESPN because I'm exhausted of this, I can't take it no more, and if they get another good player, I'm done", Clark said on ESPN's First Take on Thursday. That said, Pelissero does not expect those offers to come, and he reports both sides are "good" with staying together for another season. He's also due $11 million per year over the next two seasons and has bragged about what his "value" would be around the league. Sherman has slowly softened to the idea of being traded, at least publicly, pointing to the realities of the business.

Assumptions that Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider wanted to send a message to Sherman, after a season in which the veteran called out defensive coordinator Kris Richard and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, made sense. Getting Sherman would have been redundant and the Patriots are contented with having Gilmore as their starting CB plus possibly another top defensive player in Malcolm Butler. The asking for Sherman is high as the team is looking for a draft pick and player in return.

So this wasn't just a question of whether Richard Sherman be a good addition for the Colts but more specifically about whether the Colts should pursue him in a trade, assuming a similar asking price to what the Revis trade brought. I just figured the Seahawks were just doing what all smart teams do and keeping their ears open. Fourth is the fit with the team, and on this matter perhaps especially pertinent is the fit in the locker room.

Sherman also got into a verbal altercation with 710 ESPN Seattle host Jim Moore lsat December during a press conference that was attended by dozens of media members. To that end, Sherman is one of their most valuable assets. But if you're the Seahawks, you really hope to not get yourself in that position.
