Brayan Principal, 13, died in the western city of Barquisimeto after being shot in the abdomen during a night of violent confrontations, Agence France-Presse reports.

Marquina blamed that killing on so-called "colectivos", armed supporters of the government who the opposition says commit violence during demonstrations.

Four people were killed during protests over the last week, authorities say.

Maduro is fighting efforts to oust him as Venezuela, once a booming oil exporter, flounders through severe shortages and the world's highest rate of inflation.

Venezuela's opposition was planning protests in each of the country's 335 municipalities on Thursday, in a bid to strain the capabilities of security forces as unrest mounted in the volatile nation.

Freddy Guevara, vice president of the country's opposition-led congress, called on protesters to avoid violence.

That is expected to be the next big showdown in an increasingly fraught crisis that has raised global concerns for Venezuela's stability.

Opposition deputies calling for Maduro's ouster seized the opportunity to ridicule the socialist leader on social media. Dozens have been arrested, and leading opposition figure Henrique Capriles has been barred from holding office for 15 years.

The Supreme Court later withdrew the ruling, but the move drew condemnation from Venezuelan opposition politicians and worldwide governments.

"We can not accept that the regime is willing to sacrifice Venezuelan lives to remain in power", said Luis Almagro, the head of the Organisation of American States, in a video posted on Wednesday, urging elections.

Maduro supporters staged their own rally on Tuesday to mark the anniversary of a short-lived coup against Maduro's predecessor and mentor, the late leftist firebrand Hugo Chavez, in 2002.

Maduro has resisted calls to step down, claiming the United States is backing the right-wing opposition to topple his socialist government and get control of Venezuela's oil wealth, Reuters reported.
