After weeks of suspense, April the giraffe finally gave birth on Saturday to a baby boy, delighting of hundreds of thousands of people who have been monitoring a live cam feed from a NY zoo in anticipation of the long-overdue event.

Fifteen-year-old April delivered in an enclosed pen at the Animal Adventure Park zoo in Harpursville on Saturday.

About an hour after her labor was announced, two little legs and the calf's front hooves were seen dangling from April's backside in a livestream posted to the Harpursville, New York, zoo's Facebook page. The proud papa is a 5-year-old giraffe named Oliver. Giraffes are pregnant for 15 months on average.

After a 16-month gestation period, the wait finally ended with the male calf's debut in a livestream from the zoo.

According to The Associated Press, at least 1.2 million people watched the event on Animal Adventure Park's YouTube page.

The privately owned zoo began livestreaming from April's enclosure in February and people around the world have been tuning in daily.

Since February, the live feed provided by AAP attracted millions across the US and in many parts of the world.

April has her own website and even an apparel line. The zoo plans to hold a contest to name the baby.

A NY zoo's livestream video of its pregnant giraffe is showing her giving birth.

The weight of the newborn is unknown, but a calf at birth is usually about 6 feet tall and weighs a whopping 100 to 150 pounds. It is now closed and will open to the public in mid-May. YouTube briefly took it down but the ensuing attention made the feed extremely popular as millions tuned in to try to catch the moment April gave birth.
