ABC's Jon Karl to Spicer: Will Trump Ever Release His Tax Returns?

Miranda GreerApr 19, 2017

"On the campaign trail, Donald Trump lied by saying he would release his tax returns upon the completion of the IRS audit".

'We're under the same audit that existed, so nothing has changed, ' White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer told a reporter asking if Trump would put out his most recent filings on Tuesday.

Sen. Tom Cotton, an Arkansas Republican, was hammered Monday during a town hall while defending President Donald Trump's refusal to release his tax returns, even as other Republicans have begun supporting efforts to force the President to release his returns.

"My question is you in Congress and the Senate have the power to subpoena these tax returns", a constituent said to Cotton. Some think he has something to hide by not releasing his returns.

For his next Sunday tweet read: "I did what was an nearly an impossible thing to do for a Republican - easily won the Electoral College!" This is definitely not suspicious at all and for sure alleviates the fear that he is using the presidency as a kleptocracy to enrich himself and his soon-to-be-announced Trump Moscow Towers and Luxurious Gulag resort (with complimentary Trump Beet Vodka in every room!).

While the Easter Bunny delivered treats Sunday morning, Trump delivered tweets in response to Saturday's Tax March. An increasing number of congressional Republicans have used the opportunity to insist Trump disclose his own returns or face insurmountable opposition as he attempts to satisfy another one of his campaign promises. And as of Tax Day, he has still not done so - and is, in fact, doubling down and signaling that he could never release them.

"‶How can we determine his conflicts of interest or stop him from receiving payments from foreign governments if he won't show us the names of the people and corporations that he is in active partnership with all over the world?" said Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, who appeared at the Washington rally, according to the New York Times. Now he says the election has happened and he doesn't need to release his tax returns.

"Someone should look into who paid for the small organisedd rallies yesterday". In West Palm Beach, some of those marching said they'd taken part in protests nearly every weekend since Trump was sworn in. Sure, he got a bigger victory than George W. Bush, but George H.W. Bush won by a much bigger margin than Trump in 1988, and, of course, Ronald Reagan also easily beat him.

Re: "Colorado Democrats push to require tax returns from presidential candidates, " April 17 news story. He added, "There is no legal impediment to somebody who is under audit releasing taxes and as I mentioned earlier the IRS audits every single president and vice president on their tax returns".

Unless the agency finds evidence of a tax crime such as evasion and prosecutes the case, the only way the public may learn anything of what's in Trump's and Pence's returns is if they choose to voluntarily release them, which has become a tradition for the past 40 years.
