Trump's victory not a mandate

Among the revelations claimed in the book: Clinton apologized to President Obama when it became clear Trump would win.

According to a new book, titled Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton's Doomed Election Campaign, by journalists Amie Parnes and Jonathan Allen, Clinton told Obama on election night that she was sorry for letting him and the party down.

As the first polls closed on 8 November, Hillary Clinton was preparing for the moment she would at long last take the stage as the first female president of the United States.

Around 7:45 on election night, when Hillary Clinton and her aides still thought they were headed to the White House, troubling news emerged from Florida.

"You need to concede", Obama told Clinton on the call, which was followed by a call to John Podesta, her campaign chairman.

Though she faced pressure from some top advisors to stay in the race, Clinton's mind was made up after her call with Obama, the authors say.

"Her campaign's approach was to turn out the base as much as possible, and they spent a lot of time trying to churn people out and not so much time on persuasion", Allen, head of content at the political news website SideWire, told host Bill Tucker on Tuesday's "America Talks Live".

While most of the press is reporting on the book's conclusion that deals with Hillary's election night woes, a tidbit about Bernie Sanders' support of Clinton is perhaps a more fitting post-mortem for the failed campaign.

"I'll be supportive of the country's success and that means your success as president", she reportedly said.

The two candidates were brought to the line and Mrs Clinton conceded. As she is stepping into the room, she says, 'Mr. The script sent to Sanders had him praising Clinton's ideas on healthcare and education, while slamming Trump's economic policy. At the end of the script, he was asked to use the former first lady's campaign slogan.

The calls from President Obama started after Wisconsin was called for Donald Trump. She subjugated herself to a man who humiliated her for decades, was trounced by Obama in '08, and then watched her aspirations go up in smoke in 2016, and we're supposed to believe that she just wanted to concede gracefully?

Bill Clinton's chief of staff, Tina Flournoy, "mentioned to him and a small group of his aides that she was going to see the Rolling Stones in Europe".

"Hillary winces. She wasn't ready for this conversation" the book said.
