HTC announces VIVE product launch in India

Melba UnderwoodApr 22, 2017

Announced back in January, VR for Impact is the HTC Vive's $10 million Dollars commitment to drive virtual reality (VR) content and technologies that will increase awareness and create positive impact in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

VivePort is where the users can get more Vive content and there are hundreds of apps supported. Vive has totally transformed the way we interact with the world, bringing ultimate mainstream experience to the consumer. "Now consumers and developers can experience immersive virtual reality in a way that reshapes human imagination beyond boundaries". HTC Vive owners will also be able to download compatible apps and games from the company's VR app store - Viveport.

While not the usual zombie-shooting and spaceship-piloting fare normally associated with virtual reality, VR For Impact's planet-conscious projects could offer a nice change of pace for those who own a Vive this weekend.

The HTC Vive will be available in India exclusively via Amazon, and will go on pre-order from tomorrow. The VR system wil come with two full-fledged VR experiences, Everest VR and Ritchie's Plank Experience.

The second project is SpaceVR, a virtual reality platform allowing users to take in 4K resolution VR footage of space firsthand, courtesy of the Overview 1 - the world's first VR-enabled satellite, planned to launch later this year in partnership with commercial space travel startup, SpaceX. The market for virtual reality is gaining ground over the past few years, especially as start-ups and small boutique companies develop content around new digital devices and experiences.

Vive is the first complete VR solution, including wireless VR controllers, room scale movement, and Head Mounted Display featuring a built in camera. Vive will also be available for an in-store experience across select locations in India.
