BJP, AAP, Congress leaders step up campaign for MCD polls

Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari addressing as senior leader Shyam Jaju looks on during a press conference releaseing BJP "Sankalp Patr" manifesto for MCD elections in New Delhi, April 16. It estimated 13 seats for AAP in the North, 21 in the South and 11 in the East.

For the BJP, holding on to power fighting a decade-long anti-ncumbency is a challenge and an opportunity to blunt Kejriwal's attempts to emerge as the principal adversary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The AAP is contesting MCD polls for the first time as it was formed after the last Delhi municipal elections in 2012.

Khetan said these figures had emerged after a professional agency interviewed around 31,000 voters in Delhi on who they planned to vote for in the civic polls.

A day ahead of the MCD election 2017, Swaraj India leader Yogendra Yadav has accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of betraying the trust of the people of the city. All this will be answered on April 26.

"People of Delhi have been deprived of inclusive development during the last two years because Aam Admi Party (AAP) government did not take benefits of central schemes to the poor", he said.

The poll watchdog has said they will be using the Generation-1 electronic voting machines (EVMs), which are "foolproof".

The BJP's poll effort saw rallies by party chief Amit Shah as also several union ministers including Rajnath Singh, M. Venkaiah Naidu, Smriti Irani and Uma Bharti.

Promising to clean up Delhi in one year and end the menace of dengue and chikungunya within three years if voted to power, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor urged the people not to opt for the BJP or waste their vote on the Congress. Congress had fielded some of its top leaders including Jairam Ramesh, Salman Khurshid and Shashi Tharoor for campaigning.
