Llorente outjumps Stoke to keep Swansea survival bid alive

Judith QuinnApr 23, 2017

That was a game Swansea boss Paul Clement had predicted Hull would win, so his message was for his players to take care of their own business and end a desperate run of one point from six games.

"If the gap had gone to five points with four games left I think it would have been very hard for us".

"But it is important you feel comfortable with the pressure, we need to put a big attitude in the match to win".

Swansea were given a huge helping hand when, with the score at 1-0, Marko Arnautovic blazed his 69th-mnute penalty high over the crossbar and into the disbelieving Stoke supporters behind the goal.

And although Hull City's triumph over Watford means the Tigers stay two points ahead of Swansea, Clement is confident his side will take this winning form to the last four matches of the season.

"We've been awful on the road but our home form puts us in a position where it's still in our hands and while that's the case, we've got massive belief in the manager (Marco Silva)", he said.

Stoke are a team that are all but safe this season and it is this time of year when their performance starts to drop off a little since they don't have a lot to play for.

"That figure would not have been mentioned if we had won at Watford, or played differently".

Swansea wasted no time in making Stoke pay, Carroll unleashing an ambitious shot that looped into the top-left corner after taking a wicked deflection off Allen. At 1-0 for the most part we were fine but definitely the game has transformed on overlooking the penalty - if we're able to return on terms, who knows? "Hopefully it give us that impetus to go on and finish really strongly".

"At 2-0 it's obviously very hard for us, but I was disappointed with how we started the game".

"We've picked up very few points in the last six games and hadn't been performing that well either".

"But we've got to deal with this one against Stoke because if we don't, then we might not have a World Cup final in the next game".

"Sometimes we are not the best in the first half".
