An apparent huge child sex ring has been broken up with arrest of more than 100 men in York Region.

"We used undercover operators for this investigation and once they were told that they were speaking with children for the most part the men would stop and we were OK with that, we really didn't want to identify any of the men that were not looking to purchase and to buy prostituted children".

No details about the men have been released, including their names, nor have police outlined the nature of the charges they face. Thai Truong said over the last three years York Regional Police officers developed personas as pimps and traffickers.

When potential clients were told the "girls" were aged 13 to 16, most men dropped the matter, but 104 attempted to arrange meetings and were subsequently arrested.

The average age a minor is introduced to the sex trade is under 15-years-old, Truong said.

He says child sex trafficking is a growing problem in Canada.

Truong further pointed out that every efforts are being made by the members of the Human Trafficking Team for combating human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of women and underage girls.

Police said they used this method because it is very hard to get real prostitutes and pimps to cooperate with them and to testify against those buying underage sex.

York Regional Police said Thursday said the suspects are from York Region, throughout the Greater Toronto Area as well as outside of the province.

"Young lives are irreparably damaged, some completely destroyed and other lost completely".

Orlando said, "These girls experience significant and long lasting trauma from which most never recover".

Const. Andy Pattenden credited investigators for their work.
