Promises on jobs, affordability continue to dominate BC election campaign

"Christy Clark has been a disaster and we are calling her out", says Hunt. But Clark cut her off. An online backlash erupted with an #IAmLinda hashtag on Twitter, as Liberal-bashers everywhere took to their computers and smartphones.

Ms. Higgins says she is now laying low.

"I grew up playing lacrosse so I can take it", he said of the jabs on social media.

Sure enough, the #IamLinda hashtag had become one of the hottest Twitter trends in B.C., and was still registering thousands of online hits this weekend. "It's time to come together to elect an NDP government that will change that".

Higgins is shocked by it all. "I am not a political person. It was just an impulse thing".

During the debate last Wednesday, Clark said that thanks to action by her government, now B.C. has the Medical Services Plan premiums adjusted to the same rate they were in the early '90s. 'I listen to CFOX. She might, Ms. Higgins said, have offered to have a Liberal staffer or the local candidate follow up.

Yet the BC Liberal platform released April 10 says Clark and her party are "on track to eliminate BC's operating debt by 2021". "I don't think ideology matters that much", he said. "I didn't say anything remotely like that. I'm good with that".

Four years ago, going into the 2013 provincial election, the BC NDP were also ahead in the polls, but the Liberals pulled it off on election night. "I see him in the coffee shop and I see him on the ferry".

Ms. Higgins said what was likely unusual about the situation is that she spoke up. He posted their photo on Facebook, triggering the Liberals' conspiracy theory that she was an NDP stooge. MacLeod drew on the B.C. governments own documents and found a two-income family making $60,000 a year pays about $2,400 more per year in taxes than they would in Alberta and about $1,200 more than they would in Saskatchewan.

This time, the B.C. Liberals have fielded three indigenous candidates with high profiles in their communities: Wanda Good (Stikine), Ellis Ross (Skeena), and Dallas Smith (North Island). Will talk about tax competitiveness, work on that, but no HST.

"We will not consider an HST as long as I am premier", Clark said.

"We did not, though, accept the key recommendation in the minds of some of the folks from the environmental movement, which is that we double the carbon tax", she said.

The NDP naturally jumped all over this, saying Clark was considering another HST with a different name. She's signed backroom deals to allow companies to utilize temporary foreign workers instead of British Columbians in our resource industries.

The finish line is in sight.
