Chinese academicians back Pak on CPEC; want India's concerns

Miranda GreerMay 04, 2017

The China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project is an economic corridor comprising a collection of projects now under-construction at a cost of $51 billion.

India's ties with the resource-rich African continent as well as with the Gulf countries and the situation in the Middle East are also expected to be discussed during the meet. "We will urge the Pakistani government to improve its capacity to govern but generally speaking it is a problem between friends", he said.

"We are expecting that by 2018 about 7,000MW of energy would be added to the national grid and linkages of eastern and western routes would be completed", he said.

While presiding over a meeting in Islamabad to review the progress of ongoing projects under CPEC in various sectors including communication, railways, infrastructure, energy, Gwadar Port and Special Industrial Zones (SEZs), the minister directed the federal departments to cooperate with the provincial governments in order to ensure smooth working on the under-construction CPEC projects.

Global Times is considered a mouthpiece of the ruling Communist Party of China, sparking concerns in India about a shift in China's stand on the Kashmir issue.

CPEC would have positive impact on the whole region specially neighboring countries including Iran, Afghanistan and India. "This is what Pakistan tells us". Because of lack of mutual trust between Pakistan and India, it is also hard for us, so I guess it is up to India and Pakistan, the two brothers, to make a joint consultation because CPEC has become a regional arrangement. "The initiative will bring benefit to a lot of countries so there should be no worry and suspicion", he said during the interaction.

"To be frank, (the Pakistan) government not well government".

"It's truly ridiculous to assume that its two neighbours Sri Lanka and Pakistan would be so naïve that they would prefer unbearably hefty loans from China to more affordable loans from the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank or India's Line of Credit", the daily said. We have to ensure that the design is well carried out. "We can not change our main alignment".
