Here's the weather outlook for Mother's Day

Miranda GreerMay 13, 2017

Not to worry. Mother's Day is looking just fine. Showers and storms are expected to impact the area from the afternoon into the night, lingering for some into the start of our weekend. (You can call it a "nor'easter" if you really want.) Plenty of moisture to make for washout conditions across the entire state. It is dry and still quite warm Friday, with highs in the lower 80s.

Friday: Lots of clouds mixed with few periods of sunshine. It will be a chilly day with a gusty wind; highs will mainly be in the upper 40s to lower 50s.

Saturday Night: Rain before midnight, then showers likely after midnight. Be sure to check back for regular forecast updates, as next week's storm chances get closer. More recent weather models are pushing up rain totals offshore, so the lower amounts could be seen inland. High near 55. Between a half and three quarters of an inch is possible. However, street flooding on the islands is expected as heavy rains will fill up the usual areas. This will help cool temperatures temporarily overnight. Scattered Showers (70%). Windy. But timing, the storm's track, and wind's trajectory are really playing in our favor here. The storm won't arrive until Saturday evening.

After 3 Batavia, rain will begin falling. The map below shows very little rainfall before this time in Boston. The worst weather moves out by early Sunday. Southeast wind 5 to 8 miles per hour becoming calm after midnight.

Because of the forecast, Duckling Day and Lilac Sunday in Boston have been cancelled.

A strong, rather unusual May nor'easter is going to develop over the weekend, as the current cool pattern continues for a few more days. Friday will be a fairly quiet weather day with more clouds than sun and a light northeasterly breeze. And it's coming! Boy, is it coming...

The turn toward the warm-up starts on Monday with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the lower 60s.
