Sean Spicer under fire during crucial week for Trump

But with Spicer out on US Naval Reserve duty this week, speculation quickly began swirling that his substitute - principal deputy White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders - could be under consideration to replace him.

Sanders said Thursday that Trump would "love nothing more for this investigation to continue to its completion".

But then President Donald Trump suggested there might be recordings of his conversations with the Federal Bureau of Investigation chief he fired.

Following the *extremely suss* firing of FBI Director James Comey, Sean Spicer pretty much gave up on trying to justify it to the rabid White House Press Corps.

Trump was asked what should be done about his press team being unable to keep up with him. "Unless I have them every two weeks and I do it myself".

"Look, it may just be that the president is trolling the press corps and saying "Work yourself into a frenzy about all this" and turns out it's nothing", continued Wallace.

"I think it's pretty simple, I hadn't had a chance to have the conversation directly with the president", she said. He said Spicer is a nice man "but he gets beat up".

Earlier in her briefing Thursday, Sanders claimed that Comey's firing had not altered the Russian Federation investigation at all.

"As a very active President with lots of things happening, it is not possible for my surrogates to stand at podium with flawless accuracy!" wrote Trump, referring to aides' claims that he took action on Comey based on the recommendation of Department of Justice officials.

"If Hillary Clinton had won the election - which, thank God, she didn't - but if she had, and she had been in the same position, she would have fired Comey immediately, and the very Democrats that are criticising the president today would be dancing in the streets celebrating".

"As a very active President with lots of things happening, it is not possible for my surrogates to stand at podium with ideal accuracy!.Maybe the best thing to do would be to cancel all future "press briefings" and hand out written responses for the sake of accuracy???" he wrote in a pair of posts. But Comey's colleagues told The New York Times instead that Trump pressed Comey at the dinner for a "loyalty" pledge to the president and that Comey refused. "Doing away with briefings would reduce accountability, transparency, and the opportunity for Americans to see that, in the US system, no political figure is above being questioned".
